Songs of Yophea

Ya Morina

Ya Morina is the lullaby of the Memmian Mer-people. Kinora sings it in Book 2 of Aria’s Adventures. It would be more proper to say that the author ‘discovered’ this song, rather than devised it from his own thoughts.

The whole song below is in ancient Gessemian (one of the many languages of Yophea). Why a Gessemian hymn is an integral part to a Memmian temple is beyond the author. Perhaps there was some friendship between the two kingdoms at some point.

While certainly the words make most sense for a child of the sea (a mermaid), the author is amazed at how much these words apply to those who have a particular love for the sea. He is also amazed at how much Marian symbolism is found within the song. Likely this is accidental - as Mary contains within herself the embodied perfection of all that is beautifully feminine.

Oh, the Sea-Born!

Oh, sea-born! Oh, sea-born, mother of the waves.

Oh, sea-born! Oh, sea-born, mother of the deep, my guardian.

My heart hears. My heart hears the sound of the sand.

The earth moves. The earth moves and the hand creates.

Sea, mercy. Tiny drop, rising wave. Yellow sun, honey-sweet.

With my crown. With my crown, I am the horn (strength).

Give us the night. Give us the night, and I will sleep.

The high gift. The high gift, oh, the hidden mother! Oh!

Honey to honey. Honey to honey, given to the world.

Sea, mercy. Tiny drop, rising wave. Yellow sun, honey-sweet.

The valley is home. The valley is home where the sea flows.

The sea comes. The sea comes, she who is known.

Sea, mercy. Tiny drop, rising wave. Yellow sun, honey-sweet.

Truth is Esyam (rising like fire). Truth is rising like the moon.

The wholeness of the dream. The wholeness of the dream, the
                  people’s rest.

The soul sings. The soul sings, sea-born, in the stars.

The woman gives. The woman gives her light to the threshold.

Sea, mercy. Tiny drop, rising wave. Yellow sun, honey-sweet.
